Criminally Negligent Homicide (PL §125.10) occurs when a death is caused by criminal negligence—conduct creating a substantial, unjustifiable risk of death that the defendant failed to perceive, and that failure is a gross deviation from reasonable care. It’s a Class E felony, not a “violent” crime (despite the result).
Punishment can range from 4 years in prison to probation or discharge.
