Matthew E. Chauvin, Esq.
Founder & Managing Partner – Criminal Defense, DWI, Personal Injury, and Municipal Law
Matthew J. Chauvin is the Founder and Managing Partner of the firm, bringing nearly two decades of diverse legal experience to his leadership role. He is admitted to practice in New York State and the Federal Court’s Northern District of New York. As the firm’s principal attorney, Mr. Chauvin guides its strategic direction and oversees the firm’s practice areas, which include criminal defense, municipal law, commercial transactions, and real estate matters, along with a growing focus on personal injury litigation.
Mr. Chauvin’s legal career began in public service, where he spent six years as an Assistant District Attorney in Saratoga County concentrating on DWI and criminal prosecutions. That frontline experience gives him a deep understanding of the criminal justice system and the ability to assess cases from both sides of the courtroom—an advantage he carries into his defense work and his oversight of the firm’s litigation strategy.
He also served for a number of years as a Deputy Town Attorney for multiple municipalities, including the Town of Ballston and the Town of Halfmoon. In that role, Mr. Chauvin was responsible for advising on zoning, planning, land use, and code enforcement. His background in municipal law allows him to support both individuals and businesses navigating local government regulations, permit challenges, and administrative hearings.
In his commercial practice, Mr. Chauvin represents clients in a wide range of transactional matters, with particular emphasis on commercial real estate transactions and the acquisition and sale of businesses. He guides buyers and sellers through complex negotiations, due diligence, contract drafting, and closings, providing practical counsel that protects his clients’ interests while facilitating successful outcomes. His experience spans purchase agreements, lease negotiations, entity formations, and asset transfers, serving entrepreneurs, investors, and established businesses alike.
As the firm continues to evolve, Mr. Chauvin has led the expansion of its personal injury practice, representing clients injured in motor vehicle accidents, slip-and-fall incidents, workplace injuries, and other negligence claims. He is dedicated to helping clients recover physically, financially, and emotionally after a serious injury, and he is known for combining aggressive advocacy with a practical, compassionate approach.
Clients value Mr. Chauvin’s steady leadership, direct communication, and ability to achieve results in high-pressure situations. Whether defending against criminal charges, pursuing compensation in a personal injury case, structuring a business transaction, or guiding clients through municipal issues, he provides comprehensive representation grounded in strategy and experience.
Mr. Chauvin earned his Bachelor of Arts in History from Pennsylvania State University and his Juris Doctor from Rutgers School of Law. He remains committed to serving his clients and community with integrity, diligence, and a strong sense of purpose as he leads the firm forward.
