Lifetime License Revocation

Since 2012, NY DMV regulations have imposed lifetime license revocation for dangerous repeat alcohol or drug offenders.

Defined as:

• 5+ lifetime DWIs, or
  
• 3–4 DWIs in 25 years plus a serious driving offense, such as:
  
  • Fatal accident involvement
    
  • Vehicular assault/manslaughter
    
  • Multiple 5-point violations
    
  • 20+ license points in 25 years
    

These regulations apply retroactively and only after a license revocation, not a suspension.

If labeled a dangerous repeat offender, the driver loses their license for life.
